It's a Date!!!
At long last we have a date for our fun run - October 19th. We will be posting more information shortly. It will start at the same location as last year - Rosedale Rapids. As we starting getting the word out we are asking all of you to help us promote this fund raiser. We are within $2500 of our goal and are really hoping this will put us over the top. As I mentioned watch this site over the next several days for full details and registration information. Thanks to all of you for the help.

A Really Wonderful Surprise!!
A week ago today we got a really great e-mail from 4paws. We have had a large addition to Kennan's fund raising totals. We now have $10,667.46 going toward his dog. We think that there is also a couple of things that aren't yet showing which would allow us to top $11,000. We can hardly believe it we are almost there. We are waiting on a specific available date from the city for our fun run. We hope that this event will be our last and that we will be able to finally be finished with this part and awaiting our date for Kennan/and us to go to training and bring home his dog. If you still follow us here please start promoting our fun run as soon as we announce the date. And to all of you who have helped us over the last 21 months a big huge thank you.

Trying to stay afloat!
When we started this blog for fundraising I had grand ideas about writing two or three times a week to keep everyone up dated and to raise awareness about children with FASD. But we have been so busy the last ten months I've been lucky to post once a month. Hopefully, I can get back into the groove and really post two to three times a week. We are hoping to post in the next couple of weeks the date for this years 5K fun/run fundraiser. So stay tuned for that announcement.

Food for Thought
The enzyme that breaks down alcohol in the mother’s
body is called alcohol dehydrogenase. Your baby lacks this enzyme in their own
body and must rely on the mother’s body (via the blood supply through the
placenta) in order to clear alcohol from the baby’s blood stream. This means
that while the levels of alcohol in the mother’s body are one thing, the levels
in the baby’s body are much higher and it takes longer to clear the baby’s
blood stream. Even if it’s just one drink.
This is the cause of the damage that alcohol does
to a baby and why the mother may suffer no ill effects. This is one reason why
they can not determine the exact number of drinks that will cause problems.
Every woman’s body is different and everyone clears alcohol from their system
at different rates. But, whatever the rate, it is much slower for your baby
which means that their developing body and brain are exposed to much higher
levels of alcohol than your own and for a longer time.
When you’re pregnant you are carrying around some
very precious cargo…..is the drink that important? Is it worth the risk?
